1. Jeromy West – CF (AA)
A career .327 hitter capable of hitting 20 HR per season, West’s long term future looks to be in left or right field since he lacks the range to stay in CF.
2. Carmine Ross – SS (AAA)
Ross is similar offensively to West and is also looking forward to a position change. He boasts a career .333 average with 20+ HR and 100+ RBI each level.
3. Joaquin Vazquez – 1B (AAA)
Vazquez has an excellent power/eye combination that indicates he is capable of putting up significant offensive numbers – borne out by his numbers, averaging 40 HR and 140 RBI over the past three seasons. His subpar glovework will probably doom Vazquez to a career at 1B where he is blocked at the ML level by Ken Daly. Montgomery is known to be shopping the slugger.
4.Mark Morton – SS (HiA)
Morton projects to a true SS defensively, but is a little light with the stick. He has adequate speed to go along with a good batting eye. He could hit .270 with 15-20 SB at the big league level
5. Denny McConnell – 2B (AA)
McConnell projects to be a ML leadoff hitter using his superior contact, speed, and baserunning abilities. Insiders believe that he does not have the glove to stay at 2B and a move to the outfield may be in his future.
6. Dennis Rice – SP (LoA)
Rice projects to be a back of the rotation starter. Above average control and pitch quality are averaged against very average movement. He will eat a lot of innings and keep the ball on the ground.
7. Wilson Scanlan – SS (AAA)
Scanlan is a true defensive shortstop and Montgomery coaches believe that he is capable of handling the position now. He is average with the stick – struggling against right handers. His free-swinging style have also led to a high number of strikeouts.
