Top FA Signings - Day 2

Day 2 saw some big names come off of the board. They are as follows:

Wilfredo Veras SP Jacksonville, 3 yrs $31 million

Analysis - Veras is a legend in Houston - with 2 Cy Youngs, 7 all-star appearances, 2 gold gloves, and 3 WS rings. He is 241-74 with an ERA of 3.05 and a WHIP of 1.16 over 14 ML seasons. He has started to decline, but should be a top of the rotation SP for 2 more seasons.

Sandy Ramsey SP, Memphis 5 yrs $81 million with a player option

Analysis - So far, this is the biggest singing in terms of total money. Ramsey is only 30 yrs old, so he is sure to produce for every year of the contract. He is 104-77 with an ERA of 4.12 and a WHIP of 1.32 over his 9 ML Sseasons. He has made 2 all-star appearances and has one WS ring.

Miguel Vazquez SP, Jacksonville 4 yrs, $25.2 million with a no-trade clause

Analysis - Vazquez is coming off of a 20-5 NL Cy Young winning campaign. He is 209-157 with an ERA of 3.70 and a WHIP of 1.25 over his 19 ML seasons. He has one Cy Young, 3 all-star appearances, 1 WS ring, and has thrown a perfect game no-hitter. He has begun to decline but should remain elite for one more season

Felipe Encarnacion Jacksonville 3 yrs, $18 million

Analysis - Jacksonville continues their spending spree, grabbing one of the best closers in the game. Encarnacion has saved 471 out of 569 games in 16 ML seasons with an ERA of 3.87 and a WHIP of 1.35. He has appeared in 7 all-star games and has 2Fireman awards. He will likely be the closer for all 3 of his seasons in Jacksonville.

Mo Nunnari 3B Hartford, 4 yrs, $25.6 million

Nunnari joins a very good Hartfors team in need of a bug bat. He has 223 homers and 741 RBI's over 8 ML seasons with an average of .278. He has yet to win an ML award, but should contribute nicely for all years of his contract.

Nicholas Mathews Jacksonville, 1 yr, $5.2 million

Mathews adds to the riches of Jacksonville's FA pitching class. He has saves 244 of 301 games in 14 ML seasons with an ERA of 4.19 and a WHIP of 1.37. He has two Fireman awards and has appeared in 2 all-star games. A good one-year deal with little risk.

Mateo Martinez Memphis, 3 yrs, $12 million

Analysis - Martinez is a steal. He has saves 278 of 316 games with an ERA of 3.03 and a WHIP of 1.10 over 10 ML seasons. He compares favoritively to both Mathews and Encarnacion. He has 1 WS ring to go along with 1 Fireman and 7 all-star appearances. Should be productive for all 3 years.
